Greetings from Lucky Town is
a tribute to the songwriting of Bruce Springsteen. These recordings of his songs are made by fans who have met only “virtually” through the Internet Luckytown mailing list. The usual disclaimers about lack of time, equipment and talent apply. ;-) Special

Greetings from Luckytown Vol.
2 is a CD by amateur musicians from different
countries of the world who have at least two things in
common: firstly, as dreamers, they all found something
valueable and interesting for themselves in the world and
music of Bruce Springsteen; secondly, as practical
people, they are all familiar with the Internet. What
comes out of mixing these two above elements is that here
is a bunch of people who have never actually met, but
decided to share their renditions of Bruce songs with
each other. The CD is not for commercial purposes, and is issued only in sixteen numbered copies, #1 going to Bruce, #2 to Kevin Kinder, maintainer of Luckytown, the Bruce-related discussion list on the Internet, and the remaining copies to the performers themselves. [Later an additional copy has been made for an auction supporting the Kristen Ann Carr Fund. - G.B.] The CD could not have been brought about without Kevin Kinder and the Luckytown mailing list, the gathering place of Bruce fans on the Internet. Luckytown was the place where all the participants met each other and heard about each other for the first time as fellow musician Bruce fans. Thanks to Bruce always for the music, the lyrics, the hope and faith in a way out, for bringing together the community of people thinking in a similar way, and for the value of love he sends through his music, love that will unconditionally want to be passed onto other people and be spread. Enjoy the music!

Welcome to this new edition of
the Greetings from Luckytown music project. Greetings
from Luckytown evolved from members of the Internet
E-mail forum, the Luckytown Digest,
a discussion group about the music of Bruce Springsteen.
Some participants thought it might be a good idea for
fans with some musical abilities to put their own version
of their favourite Springsteen song onto tape as a
tribute to their idol. Then to make it into a compilation
tape to be distributed among the members of the Digest.
Purely for their own enjoyment. This project has been in existence since 1995 when Antti Kauppinen started this project and put volume 1 together. In 1997 Gábor Palásti, assisted by Jos Westenberg, took it upon himself to continue the project which resulted in volume 2. The first volume was on cassette tape, but with the rise of recordable compact discs technology volume 2 was issued on CD-R. And now volume 3, a double-CD set is born. Also the standart of the submitted songs has improved. Some of the songs on volume 3 are professionally recorded and their musical standard is so high they wouldn’t have looked out of place on that other Springsteen tribute, One Step Up/Two Steps Back. But there are also those equally entertaining entries of people who used just one mike, a guitar and just sang their hearts out. It’s not the musical quality that is the essence of this project but being able to express your long lasting admiration for Bruce Springsteen in a way you very rarely get the chance to. Another important aspect about the Greetings from Luckytown project is its global input. Entries from such diverse places of the world as Australia, Sweden, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Hungary, Finland and France sometimes put Springsteen’s songs in a whole new perspective when [recorded] in their own language or in style far removed from classic American rock while the most US entries represent the more traditional American style of music adding country or folk influences. Anyway, this broad spectrum of styles, languages and influences make this new volume of this project fully entertaining and delivers on its intentions of creating a ‘special’ tribute to Springsteen. May it be somewhat unrefined here and there but as true and honest as the people who carry Springsteen’s music close to heart can express. As usual this CD is not commercially distributed. Apart from every participant’s copy, one copy will go to Kevin Kinder, maintainer of the Luckytown Digest, and one copy will go to the man who [has] inspired us for so many years: Bruce Springsteen.
